We know sometimes children cannot attend school due to illness. However, medical advice is clear that children with mild illness will often be well enough to attend - for example with a slight cough/cold without a temperature.
The following link contains the advice we follow as a school when making recommendations for parents. Please note, parents should keep children off school for 48hrs following the last bout of vomiting or diarrhoea to safeguard other pupils and staff from contracting the same illness and preventing an outbreak.
If your child's attendance is lower than school expectations (95%), you may be requested to provide evidence of illness in the form of a medical appointment confirmation text/email, or prescription in the name of the child covering the period of absence as closely as possible.
Medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours. Where this is not possible, your child should be out of school for the minimum amount of time necessary for the appointment. Please use the form below to let us know about appointments in advance.
Family Holidays during Term Time
Current legislation makes it clear parents have a legal duty to ensure full-time education for their children. Headteachers can only authorise a leave of absence for 'exceptional circumstances'.
'Exceptional circumstances' are defined as being rare, significant, unavoidable and short.
Although each case is considered on an individual basis, family holidays are not considered 'exceptional circumstances' and are unlikely to be authorised.
Parents can be fined for taking their child on holiday during term time. For full details, please see our Attendance Policy (link below).
